It would only effect the smoothness of the engine until it has warmed up, avoids a rough ride for a few minutes. The reason for fitting is simply the design of the engine. The non tdi models (diesel only, 1.9, 1.9 TD and 2.4 D) as most older vehicles had such mechanical choke methods just to help rough starts.

And one more thread or sometimes in the T4 the 2.4D engine did not have four cylinders anymore, because probably the older engine installed in the VW LT had five cylinders, no one will tell you exactly what it is like. A friend has been driving the VW T4 2.4D for five years and only parts are replaced, such as pads, tips, filters and oil.
1694 posts · Joined 2013. #9 · Sep 20, 2017. Just as a note, the earlier 2.4's were slightly more powerful than the later ones. The 1990 to 1997 were 78 bhp as opposed to the later one with 75 bhp. The 1.9's were 61 Bhp for non turbo or 68 with turbo. The later 2.5's come in 88 or 102.

Had a call and a mates camper has died!!! its currently an old k reg full westfalia conversion with the 2.4d engine in it. the engine has dropped a piston/cracked summit basically fubard. BUT. will an engine and box from an 1.9d fit easily enough as my local breakers has one that could be v.cheap. dan.
T4 2.5Tdi timing marks – 17-11-2008, 02:08 PM. Hi, I have replaced the cam belt and pump belt on my 2002 2.5Tdi transporter and i don't think the pump timing is quite right now because it is difficult to start when cold. I found it very difficult to find any timing marks on the fly wheel to confirm i'm on TDC.
